In the Area

Perfectly located in a wonderful country spot yet so close to the coast of Dover, Folkestone and back to the Cathedral city of Canterbury.
Dover - less than a couple of miles away here you will find the well known Dover Castle, there are also dramatic cliff top walks to the lighthouse as well as the nature park Samphire Hoe - perfect for family exploration and more.
Folkestone - is a super up and coming trendy seaside town. The harbour is where all the action can be found including the Harbour arm with street food, yummy cocktails from Wildbox bars, Macknade eaterie / food court and of course like you might expect a host of fish and chip shops, fresh seafood stalls, proper English pubs and little shops for trinkets for the little ones. If you venture just away from the harbour you can discover Steep street and the Bayle with vintage shops, art galleries, and Steep street cafe for the best cakes and coffees! More coming from this vibrant town so get exploring whilst still a secret
Seaside activities can be enjoyed in both Dover and Folkestone. Paddle boarding, kayaking and water games can be booked before and on a day out.
Shopping is best found in Canterbury and here the cobbled streets and cafes with a mix of branded shops and boutiques will give you the retail buzz you may be looking for. Canterbury also homes Chimera an indoor climbing wall, as well as Escape rooms - ideal on those less than sunny days.

Cosy countryside stay close to the beach! 5/5

We had a lovely weekend at the Gate House with our dog. The House is very cosy, clean and well-equipped, set in a beautiful estate. A lovely countryside escape situated very close to Folkestone, which has beautiful beaches, cafes and pubs. Would highly recommend!

Beautifully quiet surroundings 4.8/5

We stayed at The Gate House for 3 nights with our Golden Retriever. A charming and cosy place to stay with a sensational backdrop down the valley. In the grounds of a house further up the hill, we were spoilt with peace and quiet and just the odd occasional car going past down the lane a short distance away. You're allocated your own garden which is not enclosed but wasn't a problem for our dog. There is a BBQ outside, chairs, a table and a parasol. Parking for 2 cars at the front of the property. The master bedroom, which was the only one we used was very quirky with beautiful beams and an amazing en-suite through glass doors so that light still came into the room. A fantastic bath with a recharge area for your toothbrush! Very handy! I couldn't find a hair dryer in either room. There is also a downstairs shower room which has a rainfall shower head, so you get a good soaking. The kitchen area was generally well equipped and functional with beautiful views out over the tennis court and valley beyond. I would have appreciated a small serrated knife and a larger serrated bread knife too. The cupboards were all built in and held a good range of crockery and oven items, etc. The lounge and dining area worked well together and we had a few evenings in where we felt very much at home! The local gastro pub 'The Marquis of Granby' had superb food, and we'd recommend it. Overall, a great stay, would thoroughly recommend, unique and unusual, it's a delight to spend time at The Gate House. Many thanks to Toby for sharing his property.

Wonderful stay at The Gate House 5/5

Had a fabulous and very peaceful stay. Beds and linen were very comfortable and has a very well equipped kitchen. The owners were delightful and extremely helpful giving us plenty of ideas of what to do/see. Folkestone Harbour is definitely worth a visit and so is the local village Pub. The only issue we had was with the WiFi and TV (no terrestrial channels), but we weren't there to sit and watch TV and be on the Wifi!!!! Thank you very much for a really wonderful stay.
